Great Idea # 4                     Example 1 (basic)

                                            Example 2(detailed)

A Reading Log

A reading log is a place to keep track of all the books your child has read. Keeping track of your child’s reading has many positive rewards.

Here are some of the reasons to keep a book log:

  1. As your child sees the list grow, they really feel proud of their accomplishments. This is great for motivation!
  2. They can keep track of authors. As an adult, I am always on the lookout for books by my favorite authors. This is a useful, real-life skill they can develop now. Also, when you read a book with your child be sure to tell them the authors name too.
  3. It gives them a chance to learn how to keep information on an organized list. It is also a real reason for writing.
  4. As time goes by you will really see the development in your child’s reading and they will to.

How to Make a Reading Log

A Reading Log doesn’t need to be too fancy, it should just include enough to keep track of important facts. Some information could include:

The title

The author

The date the book was read

The number of pages

The genre (mystery, humor, nonfiction, adventure, or realistic fiction are some of the genres I include)

A scale of how well they liked it form 1-5
